Revising a Picture Schedule

During our Christmas break, Corey & I were able to slow down & look at our daily life. Although we wanted to change a few things in our personal schedules, the main focus was on Ethan's schedule. Here is what his schedule looked like......

Monday - Easter Seals (3 hours), School (3 hours), and Tumbling Class (1/2 hour - good for his body awareness which is seriously lacking)

Tuesday - School/OT & Speech (3 hours)

Wednesday -
Easter Seals (3 hours), School (3 hours), and Church program (1 hour - it's like boy scouts & good for his social skills)

Thursday - School/OT & Speech (3 hours), Swim Class (1/2 hour - good for his low muscle tone)

Friday - School (3 hours)

However, a lot of things were being missed on a regular basis due to Ethan's poor behavior. He was overly tired & overworked. We think that he is needing more down time in his schedule. So, I contacted his teacher at Preschool & discussed missing Preschool on the days Ethan has Easter Seals. She was fine with this because she, too, has seen changes in Ethan's behavior, and we have all been trying to troubleshoot the issue. However, the Special Education department has an issue with Ethan missing so much of his Preschool program.....and I can completely understand why.

So, with all of that being said, Corey & I have decided to limit Ethan's schedule to TWO things a day. Tumbling has been moved to a different day, and we will more than likely be missing Preschool on Wednesday....so it's only one day a week that he will be missing. But I believe this break in his school week will help him more than hinder him. All that being said, here is our new weekly schedule....

Monday - Easter Seals (3 hours), School (3 hours)

Tuesday - School/OT & Speech (3 hours)
Tumbling Class (1/2 hour - good for his body awareness which is seriously lacking)

Wednesday -
Easter Seals (3 hours), Church program (1 hour - it's like boy scouts & good for his social skills)

Thursday - School/OT & Speech (3 hours), Swim Class (1/2 hour - good for his low muscle tone)

Friday - School (3 hours)

We are going to try this for awhile & see how he does. I have also created a new picture schedule for him. It's a bit more simplified, but it is broken down into the 3 parts of the day....Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. I already have the pictures from our previous picture schedule. You can learn more about that from this posting: Daily Schedule.

Here is a picture of our new daily schedule....I have added the dates to it since Ethan has started showing an interest in learning about the calendar.

I will be laminating this & hanging it in Ethan's room.

Do you think we have enough picture cards?
